Turn AI ambition into an investable delivery roadmap
APPtechnology's AI Strategy and Readiness Assessment helps UK organisations decide where AI is worth investing in, what each opportunity needs and how to adopt it safely.
Our Enterprise Architects lead one structured workshop. It's followed by written recommendations: a prioritised AI portfolio, a governance view, a phased roadmap and indicative project sizing. Findings are normally presented within two working weeks of the workshop, depending on stakeholder availability. Prices start from £19,950 plus VAT. Every assessment is adapted to your sector, your data and your regulatory obligations, so the plan reflects how your organisation actually works.
Most large organisations already have AI ideas, supplier proposals and isolated experiments, from Microsoft 365 Copilot trials to sector-specific tools. What they lack is a shared way to decide which ones deserve controlled investment. Without one, well-intentioned activity becomes fragmented: harder to secure, harder to govern and more expensive than it needs to be.
The assessment gives you that shared basis for decisions by testing each opportunity against four questions.
The first is strategic fit: does it support the outcomes your leadership already cares about? The second is readiness: what data, technology and skills would it need, where is the relevant data held, how good is it and who owns it? The third is control: what governance, security and human oversight does it require, and how do you balance data sovereignty and residency with practical access? The last is investment: can it move quickly, or does it need validating before it's funded?
The result is one prioritised, commercially grounded plan in place of disconnected AI activity.
The workshop starts with your business outcomes, then tests whether AI offers a credible way to achieve them. We assess opportunities across six areas to show where you can move quickly and where caution is needed.
Move quickly where the value is clear. Test assumptions first where risk or complexity is higher.
One structured workshop, followed by written recommendations and an initial project definition for each priority. We present the findings to your stakeholders, normally within two working weeks of the workshop, depending on stakeholder availability. We prefer to run the workshop on site, with a remote workshop available where logistics or time zones require.
Visibility of your systems and data often sets the pace. If that picture is incomplete, our approach to creating a single view across complex IT estates can feed straight into the assessment.
You receive a clear, measurable plan for adopting AI, based on where your organisation is today, your sector, your data maturity and the scale of your ambitions.
Where your data or capabilities aren't yet clear, the report also estimates how long any data assessment or pilot needed to fill the gaps will take.
The output is yours to keep and act on: a prioritised AI portfolio, governance view, phased roadmap and indicative project sizing.
We use one assessment framework, adapted to the way your sector operates. Data retention, regulation, intellectual property and accountability work differently in each sector, and the assessment reflects that. Choose your sector to see how we approach it.
Scientific integrity, patient data, validation and regulated change, and manufacturing improvement
Safety, operational technology, asset performance and engineering intellectual property
Specialist knowledge, client confidentiality, evidential accuracy and accountability
Archives, research, creative direction, audience insight, rights tracking, tagging and asset management
Staff already have easy access to free and personal AI tools. Without a managed approach, much of that use is invisible to IT and security teams, which is often called shadow AI. Depending on your sector, the consequences can include:
The last point applies to software in general. Our work on application estate optimisation shows how unmanaged applications add cost and security risk, and AI tools follow the same pattern.
APPtechnology's consultants bring experience from multiple AI and AI preparation projects. Your assessment benefits from what has worked, and what hasn't, in other organisations. Our Enterprise Architects lead each assessment, guiding you through competing projects, goals and security considerations to a structured plan. Our recommendations are vendor-neutral unless you tell us you have a preferred supplier or platform.
Once the assessment has set your direction, we can support your internal teams or deliver the priority projects ourselves, transferring knowledge as we go. Where data needs attention, we can run data assessments and help implement classification and control tooling. Smaller projects can bring consistency to your data using Centre of Excellence methods.
Many AI initiatives depend on modern foundations: managed devices, cloud identity and a clear view of your applications. Our experience of modern workplace transformation, from SCCM to Intune and AD to Entra ID, means the assessment considers whether your systems and access controls are ready for AI, so new tools only reach the data they should. Any gaps become early projects on your roadmap. When AI tools are approved for rollout, our application discovery process records each tool's configuration, licensing, dependencies and ownership, so it's deployed in a controlled way.
It's for organisations that:
The assessment is usually led by the CIO, IT Director or Digital Transformation Director. Business unit leaders take part, along with people from operations, data, enterprise architecture, security, legal, risk, HR, finance and procurement.
We prefer to run the workshop in person at your premises. A remote workshop is available where logistics or time zones make that more practical.
You receive a written report covering six areas: a prioritised AI portfolio, an executive assessment, governance requirements, a phased roadmap, project definitions for quick wins and indicative sizing. It reflects your current position, sector, data maturity and ambitions. Where things aren't yet clear, it also estimates how long any pilots or data assessments will take.
From the workshop to the presentation of findings normally takes two working weeks, depending on stakeholder availability.
Not for this assessment. However, the stakeholders taking part in the workshop will need an understanding of your data sources and their quality. Where there are gaps, the report estimates the data assessment or pilot work needed to close them.
The output is yours, and your own teams can deliver it. APPtechnology can also support your teams, or deliver priority projects and transfer knowledge as we go, including data assessments, classification and control tooling.
The assessment discusses any shadow AI already in use and recommends approaches to control or remove it. It also highlights the risks of leaving it without effective controls.

Yes. Our recommendations are vendor-neutral unless you tell us you have a preferred supplier or platform.
This assessment identifies achievable business benefits over the short, medium and long term. It isn't designed to focus on whether a specific tool, such as Microsoft 365 Copilot, can be implemented.
